POSITION SUMMARY

The Medical Assistant (MA) is a member of the primary care team who provides direct patient care and clinic support. The MA facilitates compassionate, non-judgmental patient care through patient education, communication, connection, and team collaboration. The MA is responsible for rooming patients during office visits, providing support during office visits, coordination of care plans, and assists with follow-up as needed. In addition, the MA may also perform in-office point of care testing, medication administration, and other clinical skills (phlebotomy, EKG, hearing and vision testing, etc.). The MA is responsible for clinic preparation and maintenance of exam rooms, maintenance of patient records, complying with CLIA and OSHA clinic regulations, Sterile Processing, and other tasks as requested by medical providers.

This role reports directly to the Clinic Manager and will collaborate with clinic leadership team on deliverables, initiatives, and process improvement. This position requires someone to be able to collaborate with healthcare staff to ensure smooth patient care and office operations as well as be adaptable to various tasks and responsibilities within the healthcare setting.

CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Patient Care

  • Deliver exceptional customer services, ensuring that patients feel comfortable and valued
  • Pre-visit Planning
  • Assist with patient examinations and procedures
  • Recording vital signs, medical and surgical histories, medication and allergy reconciliation,
  • Document all processes in a timely manner including, procedures, clinical skills, medication administration,
  • Performing basic medical procedures like administering injections, phlebotomy, and sterilizing equipment

Administrative Tasks

  • Proficient use of medical software including Microsoft programs.
  • Interacting with patients as they enter the clinic.
  • Basic front desk coverage
  • Answer incoming phone calls and respond to inquires in a timely manner
  • Managing Appointments
  • Patient education and communication
  • Maintaining a patient record
  • Address patient messages in a timely manner
  • Interacting with other healthcare professionals to coordinate care for a patient
  • Manage and organize medical office files and paperwork

Medical Office Support

  • Stocking of Clinical areas including bathrooms and exam rooms.
  • Sterile Instrument Processing
  • Management of Supply Inventory
  • Compliance with all CLIA and OSHA and other healthcare related laws and regulations

SUPPORTING JOB DUTIES:

  • Comply with all policies, procedures, guidelines, and workflows.
  • Perform safe work practices to protect the health and safety of employees and patients per OSHA regulation.
  • Protect individually identifiable health information per HIPAA regulation.
  • Proper and timely documentation within patient records
  • Complete all required compliance training with the established timeline.
  • Assist in resolving patient issues or challenges that may arise, escalating when necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Work Experience:

  • 1-3 years of clinical healthcare experience required.
  • Previous experience in outpatient clinic setting preferred.

Education, certification and licensure:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Medical Assistant Certificate preferred.
  • CPR Required

Licensure/Certification/Registration: Required within the first 12 months of hire. the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), the American Medical Technology Association (AMT), the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), the National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP) or the National Health Career Association (NHA) OR licensure as EMT basic or higher, Oregon LPN, or Oregon RN. BLS/CPR required.

Skills & Knowledge: Knowledge of standard office policies and procedures. Knowledge of standard office machines including copier, fax, shredder, multi-line telephone, printer, etc. Ability to manage multiple tasks and work independently using good judgment. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Software products and medical terminology preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $20.00 - $26.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
